Montreal was on fire over the weekend with some of the biggest names and hottest artists on the rise showing up to steal the spotlight at Osheaga. If you missed the festival catch up on all you need to know right here!
The stars of this year’s Osheaga were really the organisers for putting together such a stellar lineup. For some reason this year’s Osheaga felt a bit like the battle of the babes, with so many of the hottest female names in music right now in one place all showcasing their major stage presence, talent and style. All the major girl players including Tove Lo, Ryn Weaver, Banks and St. Vincent all ended up wowing the critics as much as the fans, so much so that it seemed like every last one of them was dedicated to landing the front page of the papers as a featured highlight. The vibe was completely different one act to another considering the festival’s lineup consisted of rappers, indie bands, pop stars, EDM producers + more.
The guys that the crowd went mad for included James Bay who made us feel like we were at Woodstock in ’69, NAS who had the audience literally hanging off and praising his every word and X Ambassadors who got down and dirty with the crowd rocking out to every single tune of their new album VHS. X Ambassadors, who’re signed to Imagine Dragon’s label KIDinaKORNER and produced by Alex Da Kid, really seemed to have been blessed with some serious stage presence and shockingly moving vocals that really gave people a taste of what might turn out to be the breakout band of the year. During our interview with the band they showed how not only are they top guys and very down to earth, but that they were really excited for VHS and were ready to show the world who they are as a band. They sure ended up coming out the winners at Osheaga this weekend!
It was also a great place to spot celebrities this year, supermodel Cara Delevingne amongst others was spotted in the crowd. She was there supporting girlfriend St. Vincent who had a cracking set.
This year, Osheaga has arguably asserted itself as Canada’s top commercial music festival. We’ll definitely be returning next year & can’t wait to see who’s going to be on the lineup next time.
